The fleet of the Eurofighter Typhoon has surpassed one million flight hours, announced Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH after the data was compiled by the International Weapons System Support Centre (IWSSC) of the program.
The program currently includes 769 aircraft ordered by ten air forces, but Eurofighter expects to receive more contracts from key export countries in the future.
“One million flight hours is truly a historic milestone that reflects three decades of teamwork, innovation, and dedication from thousands of people across Europe,” said Jorge Tamarit-Degenhardt, CEO of Eurofighter.
“It underscores the Typhoon’s enduring performance, adaptability, and its vital role in the complex global security landscape today.”
According to Eurofighter, about 80% of the operational air missions conducted by the four main nations in the program are carried out with Typhoon aircraft, highlighting its role as the backbone of combat jet operations in Europe.
The aircraft continues to carry out daily missions in Europe and the Middle East, including air policing, joint patrols, combat operations, and Quick Reaction Alert missions.
“The one million flight hour mark […] also reflects the exceptional professionalism of the pilots, engineers, and technicians of the Typhoon who operate and support it every day,” added Tamarit-Degenhardt.
Alongside this aircraft milestone, the EJ200 engine has already surpassed two million flight hours, as each Typhoon is equipped with two engines. “Reaching two million flight hours is a proud and emotional moment for the EJ200 engine and for everyone involved in its development,” said Ralf Breiling, CEO of Eurojet Turbo GmbH.
“It is a strong endorsement of the engine’s reliability and performance, and we look forward to extending this success as the EJ200 continues to power the Typhoon for many years.”
